Hello Poke-fans, and welcome new members!
The staff has reached a verdict on 'A Different Type of Pokemon'! We got so many clever entries for this contest and it was hard to pick, so please check out all of the entries here: poke-fanclub.deviantart.com/ga… There are many more that deserve recognition!
But for now, onto the winners...
While it's easy to merely change a Pokemon's colors and trade its elemental markers for another's, this design creatively works Milotic's traits into a new, but still recognizable identity. A very smart design overall!
As with the 3rd place entry, the trading of a natural-looking flying type into a natural-looking water-dwelling creature is impressive, and comparing Ho-Oh to a lion fish is absolutely inspired. We all felt this was a very creative take on both the Pokemon and re-typing.
We were all pleasantly surprised by this excellent concept. Both Pokemon are well-designed and definitely recognizable, and they work eerily well in this new skin. (Just don't look into that Magikarp's eyes for too long...)
Thank to everyone who participated, and we hope you all had fun!
The objective of this contest will be to take a Pokemon (or evolutionary line of Pokemon) and reimagine it as a different type!
The staff will judge the winners based on who we determine have struck the best balance between creatively changing the Pokemon's original design and its recognizability, so remember:
We must be able to tell what Pokemon it is that you redesigned! If we can't see the resemblance to the original, unfortunately it won't do so well in judging.
Be creative! Don't just color a Charmander blue and call it a Water type or stick wings on a Bibarel and call it a Flying type. You can do better!
The judging is strictly for the visual design of the Pokemon, so don't worry about drawing a background or coming up with new moves or anything for your design. Feel free to do that if it tickles your fancy, though!
The deadline is June 18th, 11:59PM EST!
Please submit all entries to the 'A Different Type of Pokemon' folder by then!
The title of your entry Deviation must include the name of the Pokemon you're redesigning and its 'new' type. For example, "Water Charmander" (or "Water Charmander Line" if you decided to do its evolutions as well!). If you also choose to give it a new name you can put it in the title as well, but the type and original name must be included!
Only redesign using official Pokemon types please, so no 'Light' types or anything of that nature. Along the same lines, 'Legendary' is not a type, so normal Pokemon redesigned as legendaries or vice versa don't qualify for this event.
All types of visual art mediums that lend to designing are allowed, including traditional, digital, or sculpture if you wish!
If the Pokemon you're redesigning has two types, you may change both types or only one. It's up to you! However, please don't merely add or subtract types. At least one type must change, and your redesign can only have two types maximum.
Only one species of Pokemon or one evolutionary line per Deviation.
You may submit up to two entries, but only one of your entries can place!
This contest is to reimagine an actual existing Pokemon, so unfortunately, your entry cannot be your own evolution of an official Pokemon, a fusion of official Pokemon, or a Fakemon. (Because of this, unfortunately we also have to discourage 'Eeveelution' entries since it would be hard to distinguish them as a reimagining and not a new Eeveelution altogether. Eevee itself is fair game though!)
Your entry must have been made for the contest, so no deviations from before May 18th, 2012!
All other Poke-fanclub rules apply: All art must have been made completely by you (no tracing/sprite edits and that sort of thing), must be all-age appropriate, etc.! If you aren't familiar with the regular Poke-fanclub rules, please read them on the front page.
We're having an open call for any members that would like to contribute prizes! If you're interested, just send us a note with what you'd like to provide for which placer(s)!
